We look to our social feeds for a hit of instant gratification, but now, more often than not it’s morphing into “instant mortification.” One awful headline after another. It begins to numb people, and it means we have to work that much harder to pull people out of their fear state – to remind ourselves how we’re contributing to the other side – the side of progress. Fostering diversity and inclusiveness is one great way to do that. By opening up to people, we let the good, productive conversations flow. ~ Lynna Lan Tien Do #ProgressIsPlural @JLOEB @wiki_lynna_pedia Image by @makindephoto A post shared by The Junior League (@juniorleague) on Nov 14, 2017 at 9:16am PST

Diversity and inclusion used to be a nice-to-have. Today, it’s one of society’s most central issues, especially here in the US. The topic is being challenged from our nation’s leadership on down. Regardless of political views, we’re being forced to ask ourselves what matters – what do we stand for? And even though the headlines might appear dire, I think this is exactly the place where change – deep change – starts to happen. If only because there’s no where else to turn. ~ Lynna Lan Tien Do #progressisplural A post shared by The Junior League (@juniorleague) on Nov 14, 2017 at 9:42am PST

When it comes to diversity and inclusiveness, fear is our greatest foe. It keeps people hiding in their own bubbles. Today, we can even choose which headlines we see in the news. The more we can create opportunities for different people to just BE AROUND each other is a good thing. We don’t have to make it some deep conversation about diversity and inclusion. Just interacting and being pleasantly surprised that you have stuff in common. That has a powerful, incremental effect. ~ Lynna Lan Tien Do #ProgressIsPlural Image by @nguema_bianca A post shared by The Junior League (@juniorleague) on Nov 14, 2017 at 10:24am PST
