People want to champion diversity and inclusion, but they don't know where to start. We all lead busy lives. What's the one thing I can do to make a difference? Mentoring and reaching out to others is a good place to start. You can be someone's doorway to opportunity just by introducing them to your world- what you do, the organizations you're a part of, your volunteer activities. All of these things open them up to a whole new group of people, new perspectives, and that can have an exponential effect on their future success. - Michelle Rodriguez Flores | 📷 by @meagzz1805 #ProgressIsPlural #inclusiveleadership #makingspaces #JuniorLeague #equity #vision #collectiveresponsibility #communitybuilding A post shared by The Junior League (@juniorleague) on Nov 15, 2017 at 9:03am PST

One of my favorite quotes when thinking of working towards inclusion and strengthening communities: "When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid" -Audre Lorde #ProgressIsPlural #JuniorLeague #powerful #inclusion #vision #intersectionality #courage #empowerment -Michelle Rodriguez Flores A post shared by The Junior League (@juniorleague) on Nov 15, 2017 at 9:37am PST

Ego can get in the way of diversity and inclusion- especially between younger and older generations. I've even seen it play out at times at the Junior League. We're an established institution with a way we like to do things. Young millenials have new ways of getting things done, and we're learning to embrace that. We're putting ego and stubbornness aside and getting excited about changing things up. And on the flip side, our younger members are open to trying things that have worked for generations. It's a powerful team up. #ProgressIsPlural #generationalpower #buildingleaders #equity #JuniorLeague #makingspace #breakingstatusquo -Michelle Rodriguez Flores A post shared by The Junior League (@juniorleague) on Nov 15, 2017 at 10:11am PST

In the United States, our history has been so racialized and even now, there are people growing up in very segregated communities. We have to work extra hard to break through when it comes to diversity and inclusion. It's not just people clustering around their comfort zones and playing it safe. It's about addressing the anxiety, judgement, and fear that we caused in our not so distant past | 📷 by @archillectinsta #ProgressIsPlural #BreakingFear #GrowthIsUncomfortable #challengeyourself #community #inclusiveleadership #intersectionality #makingspace #JuniorLeague -Michelle Rodriguez Flores A post shared by The Junior League (@juniorleague) on Nov 15, 2017 at 11:24am PST
